Hill Country Penguins

Texas Style Roots Rock mixed with Blues
and Outlaw Country
Home of the Hill Country Penguins

The Hill Country Penguins are a natural result of decades of musical friendship among its musicians. The history of their collaboration, spanning 17 years, puts one in mind of the musical traditions of the Appalachians or the family bands of the American South, but their sound and music are thoroughly original and modern, rooted in their own version of the blending of Rock and Roll, Country and Texas songwriting / storytelling which came out of Austin's "Outlaw" music scene in the '70's and '80's.

All the Penguins are capable songwriters in their own right, and their songs are the kind that easily stick in one's head and become favorites. David Wilcoxson's songwriting is behind many of the Penguins' most popular tunes, and Joanna Howerton and Jeff Haese are powerful singers whose voices, separately and in harmony, are the musical centerpiece of any Penguins performance. Lindsay Haisley's energetic electric bass is like sugar in good Southern cooking - the spice that binds all the rest of the flavors together and makes it all yummy! Add David's lead guitar, Joanna's accordion, Lindsay's excursions onto the autoharp, Jeff's solid guitar rhythms, and these Penguins will have you up and moving to the beat in no time!
